POOP - Perl Object-Oriented Persistence, is apparently catching on. How many people will find a solution to their design problems in POOP? Hard to tell, especially considering I am not a Peal programmer, but I definitely will think of looking into SLOOPS one day

Beowulf
I just saw Beowulf and even though the motion capture execution was amazing, the movie itself was a little disappointing ... I did love the details in each character - Beowulf's scars on his skin, his beard and hair or Anthony Hopkin's fat arms, but the motion of the figures was disturbing. They were kind of sluggish and still video game like. And their eyes were completely still! If you want to mimic a human being, wouldn't you want to put as much detail and realistic touches to the most expressive part of the face? I don't really like that part, and the mouths sometimes were not very well synchronized.
Aside from the technical quirks, I did not like how they changed the plot! There were so many Hollywood elements, at times I thought it was ridiculously cheesy, and there was nothing cheesy about life in North Europe in the 600s BC! I still dislike Angelina Jolie, and her character was very flat, unlike the real monster from the story - it is a very fervently discussed figure, especially after the 1970s. Plus, her high heels were ridiculous! The golden streaks of water were very cool though. I am not sure how many people have read the real story, no matter which translation but the screenplay was only a third correct! Why didn't Beowulf kill Grendel's mother? The only thing that made the movie a little more enjoyable, considering my disappointment with the plot, was Ray Winston's character (ok, fine, body). Even just an animated character, he was hot! The accent kind of bothered me throughout the movie, because I knew I've heard it before, and couldn't place it within the accents I can recognize, but apparently it's just plain ol' cockney :)
Go see the movie, it's an interesting experience, just don't expect to see the real literary work in it, just watch it for what it is, and maybe you'll like it.

The theory of everything?
The theory of everything article I read today made my head spin! If this theory is proven correct, it will be one of the greatest things in science. Don't get me wrong, I am fascinated by String Theory, but I like testing things, and String Theory, right now, is untestable, therefore go figure if it is applicable to our universe.
I've always believed that The Answer to everything will be amazingly simple. The E8 theory seems like a plausible solution, right? It is also so beautiful! Sometimes I wonder why didn't I come up with it? I mean, walking Maggie every day is the perfect opportunity to ponder the existence of things - while she is peeing on every branch and corner, I could totally think of something amazingly deep. Now, the reality is that it most likely won't happen, because even though I do ponder about things, they are usually pretty down-to-earth - what do I want to cook next Sunday, why does Maggie's fur change color, or why my web services are not working. I will try to think a little deeper next time. Depends how long Maggie will take to poop.
How dorky is too dorky

Interesting
I had almost forgotten the incredible feeling of finishing a piece of code, that actually works! There isn't anything like it, except maybe fixing a bug, but not that type of bug, more like the ones that don't let you go home, until you smash them!
So, during my last two semesters at school, I got disconnected from the web development world, and had to work on OS projects, none of which ended up working, for one reason or another. I mean, come on, there is a reason why OS implementations are not in Java! Anyways, sidetrack. Now that I work on 'real' projects, the feeling is back! Of course, the pressure is back too, but there isn't anything one more cup of coffee can't fix :)

Labyrinth
I was browsing through my Google Reader, looking through my Flickr Pools, when I found this image, from the group "The Best. Nothing Else". I am really picky about what I like, and on first look it did not get my attention, but when I clicked on the link to see the photographer's other work, when I really noticed it! The light, and the composition reminded me of a movie I saw last January - El Laberinto del fauno by Guillermo del Toro. It was an amazing movie! I've always loved fairy tales, used to read them constantly when I was a kid, from Andersen, through the Grimm brothers, back to Charles Perrault and various mythology books. Movies usually can't do justice to the books though, there was always something missing - the characters were not exactly how I imagined them, or the animation just sucked. "El Laberinto del fauno" was different though. I guess it was a different type of story altogether - a story for adults. I do admit it was somewhat brutal at times, but magical as well. Del Toro did an amazing job of setting the mood, and the soundtrack was one of my favorite parts! The character of the faun was something else I was intrigued by - wouldn't it be awesome if fauns really did exist? Well, they would be kinda ugly, but still very interesting creatures :)
It is strange how one thing leads to another - from reading articles on Web Services with Oracle, through long exposure photography, to this tree root image, that reminded me of a movie. Sometimes I can't really explain how my train of thought works (croquet made me think of Alice in Wonderland, and my coworkes were perplexed why). However, there is always a reason behind my reasoning. Except when I see a bee and think coffee, due to this weird McDonald's commercial of the Bee Movie and premium roast, "the way you take it".
Loud
Loud music is so much better when you are drunk, I wonder why.
You are driving down the road, windows rolled up and listening to the favorite song of the day, no one can invade your bubble, the streets are passing by, and it's pretty peaceful. Now, when you are drunk, this is a completely different story! Then you want to roll down all windows, even the windshield and turn up the volume to the max - as if the more people listen to your particular song, the better! Or maybe your brain just can't register any of the tunes or words, if the volume is anything less than max, since alcohol has invaded it. You never know, but it's a cool observation - take a note next time you are in a car with a considerable buzz (throwing up is discouraged).

Kalopsia according to most dictionaries means "the delusion that things are more beautiful than they really are" However, to some people it just means the new cool track by Blizzard, that became famous as part of Amin's A State of Trance 2007

It is a great track and I do believe you can't define how pretty things are - one day they seem gorgeous and brilliant, the next we get tired of them, and they now fall into the mundane and boring category. You never know, until then Kalopsia is just an interesting word I felt like naming my blog :-)
